Apple Dolls by Roy Curt Rom

Apple Dolls are dolls crafted through the process of drying apples. Originating through Native American practices, these dolls were made as children’s toys by craftsmen. Due to the differences in drying and the choice of apples used to make these dolls, no two dolls are alike. The apple dolls showcased the multiple facets apples could be used for in Northwest Arkansas, which defined the culture for the region early on, through its reliance on apple products, not just agriculturally, but as well as children's toys.

Northwest Arkansas had completely transformed agriculturally, culturally, and economically at the turn of the 20th century, compared to the once isolated region it was once prior to the introduction of railroads and horticulture clubs in the area. The abundance of apples in the region was plentiful, not just for children’s toys but other forms of apple businesses would form.
